Love means showing kind to others. When one loves others he loses himself. It is in all both human beings and animals. A wild animal also has love. It shows love to its child. All are living in this earth happily because of love. Now, our world faces many problems and sufferings. The cause is lack of love. Love plays important role in the world. So love is called as God. The famous proverb mentions that God is love and love is God. Love is classified into many names such as kind, ‘bhakti’ and grace. Kind is shown to suffered and agonized people. Bhakti is that a man who loves on God or divine one. But grace means to show love on mortal or human being by divine or immortal one. Names are only different but it is the same. Bhakti is used to attain ‘moksa’ or liberation. Bhakti is differentiated into many forms. They are Para bhakti, Parajnana bhakti, Parama bhakti and Prema bhakti. In this article, the role of love is analyzed through the poetry of Tiruvachakam and John Donne. Few love poems of John Donne and Manikkavasakar’s “Tiruvachakam” translated by G.U.Pope into English are taken for the reference. The article will be analysed in the way of the bhakti cult and love mysticism using the comparison and contrast of Manikkavasakar and John Donne.
