Deskripsi
This article was delivered on June 27, 2019 at “The U.S. Catholic Church: _Laudato Si’_, Creation Care, and the Climate Crisis.” The event was held at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and opened the inaugural gathering of “_Laudato Si_’ in the United States: A Conference Series on Our Common Home” co-sponsored by Creighton and Catholic Climate Covenant. Bishop Robert W. McElroy uses _Laudato Si_’ and the poem “Paradise Lost” by John Milton to suggest that the present ecological crisis is due to humans’ estrangement from God, nature, truth, and one another. He then proposes that renewing the culture of the world in response to _Laudato Si_’ calls the U.S. Catholic community to pursue interfaith ecological initiatives, convert from environmental denial to environmental reality, and empower children to be prophets of ecological justice.
