The reliability of composite scores. A formula for estimating the reliability of composite scores is developed on the basis of the formal definition of reliability. This formula is less restricting than Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Spearman and Brown's prophecy formula. It is similar to Mosier's Formula 18, but uses less information. The application of the formula is illustrated with real data. Hierdie formule is minder beperkend as Cronbach se alfa-koeffisient en Spearman en Brown se vooruitskattingsformule. Dit stem ooreen met Mosier se Formule 18, dog gebruik minder inligting. Die toepassing van die formule word aan die hand van werklike toetsdata geillustreer.
