Deskripsi

There is no need to explain here what is meant by the term accent when speaking Breton. We know that it is generally an energetic accent, more or less strong depending on the region, and whose function is essentially demarcatory. In general, we agree with François Falc'hun that there are three types of accentuation in Breton: 1. "KLT" accentuation on the penultimate syllable (with the exception of a few words); 2. "pure" Vannetais accentuation on the last syllable; 3. what F. Falc'hun calls "evolved Vannetais" accentuation on the antepenultimate syllable. In this paper, we will present some maps taken from the Atlas linguistique de la Basse-Bretagne which show the distribution areas of these different types of accents.
