Abstract Viral infection can lead to serious illness and death around the world, as exemplified by the spread of COVID-19. Using irradiation rays can inactive virions through ionizing and non-ionizing effect. The application of light in viral inactivation and the underlying mechanisms are reviewed by the research group of Dayong Jin from University of Technology Sydney.
