The author investigates the popularization of science on digital platforms, specifically YouTube, and in podcasts produced exclusively for the Web. She looks at the use of digital tools in knowledge mediation activities, particularly the practices of amateur scientists in popularizing the field. The author explores the discursive strategies used by these content creators in one type of practice in particular: debunking. Baur presents a semiopragmatic analysis of five videos that respond to a “documentary” uploaded to YouTube, La Révélation des pyramides, identified as a conspiracy theory.
