Recientes revisiones de familias y géneros de diatomeas chilenas demuestran que el conocimiento taxonómico sobre esta flora es aún muy incompleto y, en muchas ocasiones, erróneo. El objetivo de esta obra es entregar información sobre los trabajos taxonómicos y de distribución de las diatomeas marinas y dulceacuícolas de Chile y contiene 197 referencias bibliográficas correspondientes al período 1840-2000<br>Recent revisions of families and genera of Chilean diatoms reveal that the taxonomic knowledge on this flora is still limited, and in some instances, not reliable. This paper provides information about bibliographic references on taxonomy and distribution of marine and freshwater diatoms from Chile and includes 197 references since 1840 to 2000
