In the title compound, C12H16N6O2·2H2O, the organic molecule, except for the methyl H atoms, is essentially planar, the r.m.s. deviation from planarity being 0.044 Å. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds which form chains.
