Deskripsi

Introduction: Extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (EMC) is a rare soft tissue neoplasm having a high risk of recurrence and metastasis. Data regarding treatment & survivorship of EMC involving foot is limited. Case report: 46-year-old male, presented to our clinic with painful swelling over the plantar aspect of his left foot. T2-weighted MRI revealed a hyperintense lesion measuring 8.3 × 3.1 × 2.7 cm. Histopathological reports were consistent with the diagnosis of EMC. Definitive surgery of wide excision of the tumor was performed. There was no evidence of local recurrence or metastasis in 7 months of follow-up. Discussion: EMC is an important differential diagnosis of masses arising from the plantar aspect of the foot. Intraoperative use of ultrasonography could be a useful aid in surgeries of soft tissue sarcoma. A plastic surgeon's opinion before excising large tumors of the plantar aspect of the foot would decrease wound-related complications. EMC's wide excision seems to be a better alternative over amputation; however; we are currently awaiting long-term results.
