Design and Modeling of Biosensor Based on Photonic Crystal Nano Resonator

In this paper, design and optimization of a biosensor based on the nano resonator using two-dimensional photonic crystal (2D-PhC) is presented. The biosensor is consisted of two waveguides and a nano resonator. In order to increase the light confinement and well optical coupling between waveguides and nano resonator, one-end waveguide is selected as the input/output waveguides. Also, the size of three holes of structure has been changed. Due to the biomolecule bio-materials binding to the sensing hole, the refractive index of the hole is changed and consequently the resonant wavelength is shifted. The results show that the quality factor is about 2530. The sensitivity of biosensor for bio-materials sensing with effective refractive index about 1.45 (DNA molecule) is also obtained 9.48 nm/fg.
