Deskripsi

Landscape architecture in the United States has traditionally been dominated by white middle-class professionals in service to clients with backgrounds and values similar to their own. This paper looks at a design studio in which landscape architecture students from white middle-class suburban backgrounds work with Latino children and youth in a low-income urban neighbourhood. The community service learning studio is looked at as one method of introducing students to working with populations quite different from their own. It examines the problems and benefits for both the community youth and the college students, and makes recommendations for studios that follow this same model.
