This research aims at shedding light on the relations between Giambattista Vico’s philosophy and Gramsci’s political thought. We here do not simply take note of the conceptual relations, even if they may seem striking to those who know the two thinkers, but we single out the particular conditions of Gramsci’s understanding of Vico, studying in particular the complexity of how Vico’s thought became widespread in nineteenth-century Italy.
