The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of geosite in terms of research in international level and national level, with particularisation on the study of geosites in South Dobrogea Plateau. Geosites are relief forms with a scientific, ecological, aesthetical, archaeological, historical, religious and economical value, in respect of human perception. Inventory and evaluation of the geosites is a complex process of observation, interpretation and award the relief of values, making landforms natural resources, cultural and economic. These values expressed possible synergy between the geological and geomorphological heritage, bioecological and historical-cultural identity and gives a site the identity of geosite.
