Deskripsi

Since the end of the 90’s, victims have gained a central place in the imagination and in the measures associated with the end of conflict and dictatorship, particularly in Latin America. This is the case in Colombia, where unlike in the 90s Southern Cone context, there is no transition to democracy. Moreover, the Colombian State has implemented transitional justice policies, specifically for the victims of illegal armed groups since the demobilization of paramilitary combatants in 2002. How are victims socially constructed in a context of conflict? Through which process women, men and children are associated to the category of “victims”? This article aims at studying through which modalities some “sensitizing devices” to the victims cause contribute to producing some figures of the Colombian conflict’s victims. It shows that these devices not only make one see and feel victims’ grief, but also establish them as “attested victims”, which means reasonable, depoliticized victims in compliance with the traditional norms and social roles of Colombian society.
