Deskripsi
Isolated traumatic basal ganglia hematomas are very uncommon after head injury, with an estimated incidence of 2-3% of all head injuries. We evaluated the demographic profile, mode of injury, severity of injury, intervention and outcome in 35 cases of isolated TBGH treated at our center over last 7 years (1999-2005). Thirty patients were admitted with severe head injury and mortality in these patients was 50%. None of the patients with mild or moderate head injury died. We did not find any significant correlation with age, mode of injury, associated extra cranial injuries or mode of intervention with outcome in our study. Severity of head injury on admission was the only significant determinant of outcome in our study.
